US MADE CHALLENGE COINS VERSUS OVERSEAS MADE COINS
So there is the deal. It is simply a matter of money and design. At D & R we are happy to make your military coins in either the US or overseas. As I said, it is mostly about budget.
US MADE MILITARY COINS
Pure and simple, there are two scenarios where US made coins make financial sense. The first is when there are substantial quantities (500 or more) and the design with few or no colors, and the other when the recipients would strongly object to overseas made coins.
The first challenge with US made coins is the cost of the dies. Dies are the hardened steel molds from which coins are struck. It is not unusual for the dies for US made coins to exceed $600.00. Sometimes they are less but not much less. So this charge is not to0 bad if we are speaking of 500 or more coins. In common sizes individual American made challenge coins are every bit as affordable as their overseas competitors.
The second challenge is the issue of color fills. Color fill is very expensive in US factories. Overseas it is very inexpensive. So keeping down the number of colors is critical to having a US made military coin.
THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT AMERICAN MADE CHALLENGE COINS
If you are ordering 500 coins and can think outside of the box you can get a wonderful product for not so much money. Actually about the same as foreign made coins.
Look at the beautiful detail and exquisite relief work on US currency. We can do that on US made presentation coins. We can develop a detailed and elegant design that will make your coins just as beautiful and unique as those with dozens of colors. Not a few people find that a coin without color is even more attractive than one with lots of them. There is something wonderful about a coin that actually says on it, “proudly made in the USA to honor our troops”.
WHEN TO GO OVERSEAS FOR YOUR PRESENTATION COINS
Usually you will want your coins made overseas. If you want multiple colors, diamond cut edges, odd shapes and other special features overseas coins make much more sense. Going overseas to have the coins made also allows smaller quantities. We have made as few as 25 coins for a customer and still kept the price out of the ozone.
THE CHOICE IS YOURS
We will be proud to work with you and allow you to carefully compare both products. We have both available. Of course we all want US companies to make military coins whenever possible but in these days of tight budgets it is sometimes wise for the unit to have them made off-shore. Just remember that either way D & R is a disabled veteran owned company and we spend all of our profits here in the US.
